The cuckoo, a dove-sized bird, arrives in Britain about mid April. To many people the sound of the cuckoo marks the arrival of Spring. The cuckoo sings from St. Tiburtius’ Day (14th April) to St John’s Day (24th June).
Various dates in April ae known as Cuckoo Day and some places in Britain still hold Cuckoo Fairs.

I have usually heard a cuckoo by now in England. It is worrying that I have not heard one yet. However, when I was in France last week, about 300 miles south of Calais, I heard Cuckoo Cuckoo there. Perhaps they are on their way to England!
It is now April 28th and I also have not yet heard a cookoo this year. I hope that they are just a bit late and not missing altogether
