Blake – Canada Windsor Castle is the biggest castle in England. It’s the Queen’s favourite castle and the largest and oldest occupied in the world. Why were castles built in England? Alison – Canada Castles were built to protect the people who lived in them. They were often built on hilltops or surrounded by water to make them easier to defend.
