Birth of Christopher Robin

The hugely popular Winnie-the-Pooh stories, set in Ashdown forest in the south-east corner of England, featured Christopher alongside various talking animals and animated versions of his toys – among them the famous teddy-bear, Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, and others. In 1923, on a wet holiday in Wales, his father A.A. Milne started writing verse about his infant son. ‘When We Were Very Young’ was published a year later in 1924 and was an instant best-seller. By 1928, it had been joined by the two Pooh books (Winnie-the-Pooh, 1926, and The House at Pooh Corner) and a further book of verse, Now We Are Six (1927) – all to repeat the first book’s extraordinary success and all starring Christopher and his teddy-bear. Christopher Robin Milne died in Totnes, Devon on 20 April 1996
