The UK is now on British Summer Time (BST) after moving clocks forward one hour last night.
In the UK we change our clocks and watches by one hour, twice a year.
We’ve been changing our clocks forwards and backwards in the UK since 1916. William Willett, a businessman and keen horse-rider – first proposed the idea of British Summer Time in 1907 in a pamphlet entitled ‘The Waste of Daylight’. Willett had noticed that the summer mornings light was wasted while people slept, and that the time would be better utilised in the afternoon by putting the clocks forward. After campaigning for years the British Government finally adopted the system a year after Willett’s death.
Please let us know when you change your clocks.

In Italy we do it the same day that in the UK. The practice of temporarily advancing clocks so that afternoons have more daylight and mornings have less is called ORA LEGALE. 🙂
I live in Canada, and the boy that I love lives in the UK. Before last night we were enjoying that extra hour that we had to talk. It's interesting how the dates for the clock changes are different for different countries. Now that he's back to being 5 hours ahead, I wish the clock change never had to happen, eeek! 🙂
In Hungary we also changed our clocks on the same day, at two o'clock am.
I total agree with William Willett about the wastage of daylight in bed, but what confusion the forward and backward of the clock cause in this fast moving technological life is immaginable ! Can technology not find a new way of avoiding this waste?
We here in the Canary Islands change our clocks at the same time as in England too. Although we belong to Spain, who are one hour ahead of the U.K. we are always one hour behind the mainland and therefore the same time as in England.

I hate the constant clock changing – we live in the digital age now. Perhaps when we have to put te clocks back we only put them back 30minutes makes a huge difference in the evening.
Here in sunny(????) Tarragona we change our clocks the same day as you do. This means we stay one hour ahead of you.
Bye the way, your website is absolutely fantastic. We are a mixed race family and I've homeschooled all my children. I also teach English privately and your web has been a great help to me for a few years. Keep up the good work! Well done and thank you.
I'm English but have lived in Mexico for extended periods where they also change the clocks twice a year in some states
were we in double bst in 1961?
I love brits 🙂 and this website is WONderful. T-You! Here's 2 cents from the ol USA: We change our clocks 2x a year except in Phoenix AZ and..uhhh New England? maybe…We remind ourselves with the phrases SPRING FORWARD/FALL BACKWARD and each is offically known as Daylight Savings Time/Standard Time
I live in Malaysia and they don't practice, 'daylight saving time', here. There's really no point seeing as their approximately 12 hours daylight all year round, here.
